Steel casement windows
The classic Botswana window: side-hung opening sashes with fixed lights around them, closed with a handle and stay. Good airflow and easy to clean.

Made in our Gabane workshop
Tshipiworks fabricates custom steel windows and steel window frames for new builds, renovations and outbuildings across Gaborone and Botswana. Casement, fixed and multi-pane layouts, with burglar bars built in if you want them, finished in paint or over galvanising.
Why steel windows
Steel windows are still the most common window on Botswana houses, and for good reason. A welded steel frame is rigid, hard to force and easy to repair, and it can be made to almost any size or pane layout. Because we weld every frame ourselves in Gabane, we can match an odd opening on an older house, copy an existing window pattern, or build a full set for a new build from the architect's window schedule.
01
We work from your plan or the actual brick opening, not a catalogue size.
02
Side-hung and top-hung openers, fixed lights, or a mix in one frame.
03
Burglar bars can be welded into the frame design instead of added later.
04
Primer and paint, or galvanising before painting where you want the longest life.
Steel window types
Tell us how the room is used and we will suggest a layout. Every type below can be made in a single frame or as a matched set for the whole house.
The classic Botswana window: side-hung opening sashes with fixed lights around them, closed with a handle and stay. Good airflow and easy to clean.
No opening parts, so they are the simplest and most secure option for stairwells, high walls, garages and feature panels.
Small top-hung sashes for bathrooms, kitchens and toilets, often paired with frosted or patterned glass for privacy.
Narrow steel glazing bars split the window into smaller panes for the slim, grid look used on modern and warehouse-style homes.
Matching the pane layout of existing windows when you extend or renovate, so new and old windows look the same from the street.
Bars or a decorative pattern welded into the same frame, giving security without a separate set of burglar bars on the wall.
Recent project
These photos are from a set of steel windows we recently fabricated and fitted on a new house in Mochudi. The frames were made in our Gabane workshop to the brick openings on site, then fitted and sealed into the plastered walls. The client chose a brown finish on every frame so that the windows read as one set from outside.
The set mixes layouts by room: larger multi-pane windows for the living areas, two-pane windows for the bedrooms, a tall four-pane frame and a smaller window with frosted glass for the bathroom. That is typical of a full-house job: one supplier, one finish and frames sized room by room.
Building in Mochudi, Gaborone or anywhere in the south-east? Send us the window schedule from your plan and we will quote the full set.

Finishes and protection
Steel only rusts where the coating fails, so the finish matters as much as the frame. Our standard finish is a cleaned frame, a rust-inhibiting primer and a topcoat in the colour you choose: black, brown, charcoal, white or a colour matched to your gates and burglar bars.
For coastal-style exposure, poolside rooms or simply the longest life, frames can be galvanised before painting. Galvanising adds cost and lead time, so we quote it as an option and explain the difference on the measure.
Whatever the finish, keep the bottom rail and putty line sound, touch up any scratches early and make sure the window sill drains water away from the frame.
Steel or aluminium?
Choose steel when you want strength, slim sightlines, built-in security or a heritage look, or when you need to match existing steel windows. Choose aluminium windows when you want sliding sashes, factory colours and the lowest maintenance. Our aluminium vs steel windows guide compares rust, heat, dust, security and cost in detail.
What affects the cost of steel windows. The number and size of windows, how many opening sashes, the pane layout, glass type (clear, frosted, tinted or safety glass), whether burglar bars are integrated, the finish (paint or galvanised and painted) and whether we fit them into new brickwork or replace old frames. We quote per window from your sizes, so the quickest route to a price is a window schedule or a photo of each opening with rough sizes.

Our standard finish is primer and paint. Galvanising before painting is available as an option for the longest life and is quoted separately.
Black, brown, charcoal and white are common, and we can match the colour of your gates or burglar bars. The paint colour is confirmed before fabrication.
