Why sliding doors

Sliding doors for Botswana homes, lodges and shops.

An aluminium sliding door is a set of glazed aluminium panels that run on rollers along a track, with at least one panel sliding past a fixed or second sliding panel. It is the most common patio door in Botswana because it suits verandas, braai areas, pool rooms, bedrooms opening onto a garden, lodge rooms and shopfronts, and aluminium does not rust or need painting.

01

Nothing swings

The panels slide past each other, so no door opens into the room or onto the patio furniture.

02

Big glass, slim lines

Fewer frame lines than a folding door, so more light and a clearer view of the yard.

03

Fewer moving parts

Rollers on a track and a lock: simple to keep running in dusty conditions.

04

Usually better value

For the same opening a slider is usually cheaper than a bifold door.

Types

Types of aluminium sliding doors we make.

We make every slider to the measured opening, so these are starting points rather than fixed sizes. On the measure we agree which panels slide, which stay fixed, and which side the door opens from.

Two-panel patio slider

One sliding panel and one fixed panel, or two sliding panels. Opens about half the opening. The everyday choice for verandas and bedrooms.

Four-panel centre-opening slider

Two fixed outer panels and two sliding centre panels that part in the middle. Good for wide living rooms and a symmetrical look.

Stacking sliders

Three or more panels on extra tracks stack behind each other, so the door opens wider than a standard two-track slider.

Large-pane and slimline sliders

Bigger panes and narrower sight lines need a heavier profile series with stronger rollers. We tell you on the measure which profile the panel size needs.

Sliders with sidelights or fanlight

Fixed glass panels beside or above the slider make a wide glass wall at lower cost than making every panel open.

Security-screen options

A retractable steel trellidor inside the opening, or fixed burglar proofing on the fixed panels, so the glass can stay open while the house stays locked.

Profiles, glass & finishes

What goes into a sliding door that lasts.

Botswana is hot, bright and dusty, so the profile, the rollers and the glass matter more than the brochure picture. This is what we specify and what you choose.

Profiles and hardware

Light domestic sections suit standard patio sizes; heavier sections carry tall, wide and heavy glass panels. Good rollers, a clean track, brushes and seals, and a multi-point lock make the difference between a door that glides and one that drags.

Glass

6.38 mm laminated safety glass is the usual spec for patio doors, and toughened glass is used on larger panels. Tinted or reflective glass cuts glare on west-facing walls, frosted glass gives privacy, and Low-E glass helps with heat. The glass type is written on the quote.

Sliding door prices in Botswana

What drives the cost of an aluminium sliding door.

We do not publish a price list, because two sliders of the same width can cost very different amounts. These are the things that change a sliding door quote:

  • Opening width and height. Bigger panels use more profile and glass.
  • Panels and tracks. A two-panel slider is simplest; four-panel and stacking sliders add panels, rollers and track.
  • Profile range. Large or slimline panes need a heavier profile series.
  • Glass. Laminated or toughened safety glass, tint, frosting and Low-E all change the price.
  • Colour and finish. Some colours and anodised finishes cost more than standard white or silver.
  • Locks and hardware. Multi-point locks and heavy-duty rollers cost more than basic hardware.
  • Sidelights, fanlights and security. Fixed glass panels and a steel trellidor behind the door are quoted as separate lines.
  • The opening and location. Removing an old door, fixing the lintel or levelling the floor adds work; travel is added outside Greater Gaborone.

Send the opening width and height, a photo, how many panels you want and your town. We send a free, itemised written quote within 4 business hours, and if you are torn between door types we will quote a slider and a bifold door side by side.

  6. STEP 6

    Seal, test and handover

We seal the frame to the wall, check the sill drains, test the locks and show you how to keep the track clean.

Building new? What your builder should have ready

  • ✓ A sound lintel over the opening.
  • ✓ A level slab across the opening, and the finished floor height (tiles or screed) agreed before the door is made.
  • ✓ Plastered, square reveals where the frame is fixed.
  • ✓ Clear access to the opening on installation day.

Sliding or folding?

Sliding doors vs bifold doors.

Choose a slider if space is tight, the budget matters, or the door will mostly stay closed: you get big glass panes, nothing swings, and there are fewer parts to maintain. Choose a bifold door if you entertain outdoors and want almost the whole wall open. Our folding vs sliding doors guide compares sizes, glass and cost in detail.

Aluminium sliding door questions

Do you supply and install aluminium sliding doors in Botswana?+

Yes. We make aluminium sliding doors to measure in our Gabane workshop and install them with our own team, in Gaborone and across Botswana. One team is responsible for the measure, the door and the fit.

What types of aluminium sliding doors do you make?+

Two-panel patio sliders, four-panel centre-opening sliders, stacking sliders on three or more tracks, sliders with fixed sidelights or a fanlight above, and large-pane sliders on a heavier profile. We advise which layout suits the opening on the measure.

How much do aluminium sliding doors cost in Botswana?+

There is no fixed price, because the cost depends on the opening width and height, the number of panels and tracks, the profile range, the glass, the colour, the locks and how much work the opening needs. WhatsApp the opening size and a photo to +267 75 388 737 and we send a free written quote within 4 business hours.

What glass should an aluminium sliding door have?+

Safety glass. 6.38 mm laminated glass is the common spec for patio doors, and toughened glass is used on larger panels. Tinted, frosted or Low-E glass cuts glare and heat on sun-facing walls. We put the glass type in writing on the quote.

Can I add a security gate to a sliding door?+

Yes. A retractable steel trellidor can be fitted inside the opening so the glass door can stay open while the house stays locked. We make the trellidor in our workshop and plan its stacking space together with the door.

Sliding door or bifold door: which should I choose?+

A sliding door has bigger glass panes and fewer moving parts, and nothing swings into the room, but at least one panel always stays in the opening. A bifold opens almost the full width but has more hinges and rollers. For the same opening a slider is usually the cheaper option.

Can you replace an old sliding door with aluminium?+

Usually yes. We check the opening, the lintel and the floor level on the measure. If the opening needs widening, a new lintel or floor work, we tell you before quoting so your builder can do it first.

Do you fit sliding doors outside Gaborone?+

Yes. The measure is free across Greater Gaborone, and we quote homes, lodges and businesses elsewhere in Botswana with travel, from Francistown and Palapye to Maun and Kasane.
