Dark horizontal slat multi-panel sliding gate during a residential install — Tshipiworks

Mmopane · Next door to our Gabane workshop

Building in Mmopane? Plan the gate before the paving.

Mmopane is right next to Gabane, and a lot of new houses are going up there. Many gate headaches start at the building stage — an opening that is too narrow, no foundation for the track, no cable for the motor. Here is what to sort out while your builder is still on site.

Why the building stage matters

Fixing a gate problem after the driveway is paved means breaking paving, chasing cables and sometimes rebuilding a pillar. Doing it before costs very little: a few measurements, a concrete strip and a length of conduit.

Because our workshop is a few minutes away in Gabane, we are happy to come out early — at wall or pillar stage — measure the opening and give your builder the exact dimensions for the track foundation, the gate catch and the motor position.

The same goes for the rest of the steelwork. Balustrades and stair rails for a double-storey house, burglar bars and security gates for every opening, and wall-top panels are all easier to fit when they are planned with the build rather than after it.

Mmopane questions, answered

What people building new homes ask us.

When should I call you — before or after the walls go up?

Ideally at wall or pillar stage, before any paving. That is when the opening width, track foundation and motor cable are cheapest to get right.

Can you work with my builder?

Yes. We give your builder the dimensions for the opening, the level strip for the track and the conduit route for the motor, and we can check them on site before paving.

Do you make balustrades and stair rails for double-storey houses?

Yes — steel balcony balustrades, stair rails and laser-cut panels, fabricated in Gabane to match your gate and fencing.

Is Mmopane in your free-measure area?

Yes. Mmopane is minutes from our workshop, and measurements are free across Greater Gaborone.
