Pivot doors
Aluminium pivot doors in Botswana
A pivot door turns on a pivot set into the floor and another in the head of the frame, instead of hinges down one side. Because the pivot sits in from the edge, the leaf can be much wider and taller than a hinged door. That is why pivot doors are chosen for modern front entrances, lodges and office lobbies.
A pivot leaf can be fully glazed, solid panel, horizontal slats or a mix, in the same colours as your windows, with a long pull handle and a lock to suit the entrance.
What we check on the measure
- Floor level. The bottom pivot sits in the floor, so the floor across the opening has to be level and the finished floor height agreed before we fit it.
- The head. The top pivot is fixed into the frame head, so the beam or lintel above must be sound.
- Swing space. A pivot leaf swings on both sides of the pivot point, so we check clearances for furniture, steps and light switches.
- Weather. Pivot doors are harder to seal against wind-driven rain than rebated hinged doors, so a canopy or overhang over the entrance helps.

Glass in doors should be safety glass: laminated or toughened. Frosted, fluted or tinted glass gives privacy on front doors and sidelights; clear glass suits patio doors.
Hardware & finish
Hinges, pivots, rollers, handles and locks are chosen for how the door is used, from everyday entrance locks to multi-point locking on patio doors. Frames are powder-coated in black, charcoal, bronze, silver or white.

What affects the price of an aluminium door.
We do not publish a price list, because door prices change a lot with the design. These are the things that move an aluminium door quote:
- Door type. A hinged single door is simplest; double doors, sidelights, sliding patio doors, bifolds and pivot doors add panels, hardware and labour.
- Size. Wider and taller leaves need heavier profiles and more glass.
- Design. Geometric, sunburst and slatted designs take more cutting and joining than a plain glazed leaf.
- Glass. Laminated, toughened, frosted, fluted and tinted glass all differ in cost.
- Hardware and colour. Pivot sets, multi-point locks, long pull handles and special colours cost more than standard options.

Recent project: 3 m aluminium French doors with sidelights
This entrance is about 3 m wide. In the middle is a pair of aluminium French doors — a double door where both leaves open. On each side is a fixed glass panel (a sidelight) that lets light in but doesn’t open, and above each sidelight is a small top-hung window that swings outward from the top for fresh air. Everything sits in one wood-grain bronze aluminium frame with tinted glass.
It’s a good layout when you want a wide, bright main entrance without making the doors themselves too wide or heavy: the double door handles access, the side windows add width and light, and the top-hung vents give ventilation even when the doors are locked. Recent project: aluminium front door with sidelight
A single aluminium front door with one fixed glass sidelight next to it, in the same wood-grain bronze finish, fitted on a new build. The sidelight is a tall fixed pane that brings daylight into the entrance hall and makes a standard-width door look more generous, while the door itself stays a normal size to open and lock.
